1965 Mustang Fastback (K-Code)

I’m Karl McClellan, a longtime member of the Valley Forge Mustang Club and I’d like to tell you the story about my car. She is a 1965 Mustang fastback “K-Code” that I bought in 1974, 50+ years ago, while in high school from my older brother Art. She is a rare 1965 with the designation of “high performance”, meaning she was built with the 271 horsepower engine called a “K” code for the 5th digit in the VIN. Of 1.7 million Mustangs made in 1964 to 1967 only 13,231 had this engine……that’s less than 1%. She is Caspian blue with a standard white interior and blue trim. Other features and options include: 4 speed manual transmission, Rally Pac, wooden steering wheel, and styled steel wheels.
1965 was the year Ford added this body style to the original coupe and convertible lineup, making 2025 the 60th anniversary of the Fastback! Called a “2+2”, she has seating for 4 with bucket seats up front and a fold down rear seat with a pass-through compartment to the trunk.
We have been blessed with many unique experiences with our ’65 over the 50+ years of our ownership including being featured in the 2013 Philadelphia Auto Show’s “Mustang vs Camaro Faceoff”, 2013 Ford Nationals K-Code Reunion, Ford Nationals’ 50 years of the Mustang in 2014 & again for 60 years of the Mustang in 2024, the 2024 Car Club display in the Philadelphia Auto Show, numerous parades, shows and Cruises. This year we are honored to have been chosen as the feature car for VFMC’s annual car show dash plaque.
